| In 1964 customers interested in the Lemans, could pay just under $300 and add the GTO option to their Lemans. This was the beginning of the Pontiac GTO. In both 1964 and 1965 the GTO was considered an option available on the Lemans series. This was no ordinary option. In 1964 the GTO package included: lettering on the front grill, a GTO 6.5 liter emblem on each front fender, an upgraded hood with two simulated scoops, a GTO emblem above the glovebox, bucket seats, an engine-turned applique on the instrument panel, a Hurst shifter on manual cars, and a standard 325 hp 389 ci V-8 engine. Unlike many muscle cars, the Pontiac offered many options for the GTO. The options pages linked above, list the available options for each year. The information listed is accurate to our knolwedge, but we cannot guarantee it. Feel free to email us with any corrections, additions, or pictures of available options. We would like to eventually post pictures of many of the options available, to share with other GTO enthusiasts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
